COURT OF FIRST INSTANCE OF MR. NGUYEN CHI HIEN - FORMER VICE PRESIDENT OF PHU YEN PROVINCE ON SEPTEM

On September 27 and 28, the People's Court of Phu Yen province will open a first-instance trial in the case of Mr. Nguyen Chi. Hien (former Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Yen province), and other defendants involved in “The sale of 262 plots of land in Phu Yen case”, for violation of regulations on management and use of State assets, causing loss and waste.

Lawyer Le Nguyen Hoa, Lawyer Tran Van Su from LHLegal Law Firm, Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association will participate in defense for Mr. Nguyen Chi Hien (former Standing Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Phu Yen province).

Previously, on May 7, 2021, the investigative police agency prosecuted in this case based on criminal accusations made by a citizen about allowing 5% support for the illegal auction of the right to use 262 land lots in the Southern New Urban Area of Tuy Hoa City (Phu Yen), which resulted in more than 8 billion VND in damage to state property.

On April 12, Mr. Nguyen Chi Hien was prosecuted by the People's Procuracy of Phu Yen province for the crime of: Violating regulations on management and use of State assets, causing loss and waste.

However, in accordance with the actual facts of the situation, the People's Council of Phu Yen province and the Standing Committee of the Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee have agreed in writing to support 5% for investors to purchase auctions, as stated in the respective Circular No. Report No. 327 / TB-HDND dated November 29, 2016 and Conclusion No. 75 / KT-TU dated December 2, 2016. As a result, it's possible that Mr. Nguyen Chi Hien is being unfairly and objectively prosecuted for the aforementioned offense.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Hien was regarded as a capable leader who made great contributions for the province while in office.  The Prime Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, recognized him for several excellent professional accomplishments by presenting him with certificates of recognition.

The trial is scheduled to take place on September 27 and 28, 2022, for 2 days.
